The visual arts are an integral part of any church setting. St. Olaf Catholic Church in Minneapolis is no exception to that rule.
Since the visual arts are made up of a variety of mediums, it is incumbent upon the administration to work to support and maintain those objects d’art in place as well as acquiring new and additional works to complement the existing collection. In describing visual arts, at St. Olaf’s, we include many types: paintings, icons, sculpture, photographs, stained glass, liturgical vessels, and the architecturally distinctive building(s) which are St. Olaf Catholic Church.
As the general operating needs of the parish are budgeted for, it is always a challenge to allow for any new acquisitions let alone maintenance and repairs needed to maintain what we currently enjoy. With these needs in mind, we have created the “St. Olaf Fund for the Visual Arts.” The Fund has been established with initial “seed” funding of $1,000.00 from the general operating budget of the Church. Donations will be sought within and without the parish membership. Special gifts, memorials and bequests will be sought to grow the fund.
Allocations of the funds received will be recommended by the Parish/Business Administrator in collaboration with the Pastor and a “Committee for visual arts” which will be made up of parishioners and/or art experts. All final financial decisions will be made by the Pastor. Administration costs for the fund may be absorbed by the general operating budget with the approval of the Parish/Business Administrator and the Pastor.
Requests for funding will be made via fund raising events and private solicitations. The fund will remain in force as long as assets allow for a reasonable management of monies for the enrichment of St. Olaf Catholic Church.
